The position is attached to the Faculty of Louvain School of Management and the Institute for the Analysis of Change in Contemporary and Historical Societies.  EQUIS accredited and member of the CEMS and PIMS alliances, LSM was founded in 1897 and became a faculty on its own in 2010.  It offers bachelor, master, doctoral and life-long learning programmes at the sites of Louvain-la-Neuve, Mons, Charleroi and Brussels. It has 56 permanent professors, 43 research assistants and 2,500 students.

Within the Faculty of Louvain School of Management and the Institute for the Analysis of Change in Contemporary and Historical Societies, Social Sciences and Humanities Sector, this position will include the following teaching, research and community service duties:

 

    Teaching 

You will mainly teach in courses and seminars on projects, dissertations, internships and the accompaniment of work-study in Master's programs, where you will bring a critical and scientific viewpoint at the course modules interfacing with the civil society (private or public). You will also direct master's theses and doctoral dissertations. You will be active on the two sites of Louvain-la-Neuve and Mons, but also later interfacing with the Brussels site.

LSM adopts a student-oriented learning philosophy based on interactivity, applied cases, student projects and continuous assessment. Each teacher develops an individual pedagogical development pathway, supported by the Louvain Learning Lab and additional funds for pedagogical innovation projects, to be implemented over a five-year period. The personal professional development enables each teacher to be effective for different audiences (bachelor, master, doctorate), sites and formats (lectures, seminars, evening classes, MOOCs, project courses).
 

    Research

You will conduct research in the field of management and education for sustainable development. Candidates will demonstrate research experience in one or more of the following areas:

    the role of higher education institutions and other educational actors in sustainability education and transition, including analysis of implementation processes and facts of transition plans in their educational component;
    education for sustainable development in management sciences, education or training for ethical behaviour in business, critical approach to sustainable development and sustainability or business ethics, development of the skills of a socially responsible leader, in-company training/continuing education;
    evaluation of the effects of sustainable development training on representations and practices, analysis and development of engaging and impactful methods for learning about sustainability and ethics in management sciences;
    the analysis of the effects of university training in a professional environment and the conversion of learning into skills, at the occasion of the first professional integration;
    analysis of the transformation of the job market for management graduates regarding the demands of sustainability and CSR: what changes in corporate practices? what jobs for tomorrow? how to accompany the changes?


Participation in interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary research projects in the field of educational research will be an asset.

You will demonstrate analytical skills and an ability to initiate and carry out innovative research projects, leading to high-impact publications in international scientific journals as well as to the effective dissemination of the targeted educational innovations.

You will be willing to interact proactively with external stakeholders such as companies, regulators and policy makers, which couId lead to the development of projects and chairs.

 

    In addition …

Once tenured, you will carry out various service activities and responsibilities within the institution, such as being a member of a programme committee or examination committee, or having management responsibilities within the faculty or research institute.

You will also contribute to serving society, particularly in the economic, social, cultural or development cooperation fields. Finally, you will ensure, through research and teaching activities, the university’s international visibility.
Who we’re looking for

    Education

You have a PhD in Economics and Management Sciences (or in a domain that can be considered as equivalent). You have extended experience abroad or at least outside your home institution.

 

    Experience

You have a proven track record in university teaching, with evidence where possible by formal evaluations. Your scientific experience is demonstrated by publications of international standing.

 

    Skills

You are comfortable working as part of a team of academics and integrate research results into your teaching. You are capable of conducting high-level scientific research, from obtaining funding to team management. You are creative, open to pedagogical innovation and multidisciplinary.

Most master's and PhD courses are taught in English, which is also the language of research publications.  You must be fully operational in written and spoken English from the start. French is expected to be acquired by the time of tenure. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.

 
What we offer

    Tenure after positive assessment of the probationary period – typically four years. This type of career entitles you to a public sector pension.
    Appointment as lecturer or professor according to your previous academic experience, as determined by the Rectoral Council.
    Teaching load capped at 90 hours for a full-time tenure-track position, and 150 hours once tenured. 
    An attractive and progressive salary according to seniority and the promotion process.
    A start date of 1 September 2024 at the earliest.
