Plenary II: Exploring the Future of Management: the role of Artificial Intelligence
The main objective of this panel is to discuss the influence of Artificial Intelligence on the way that we will manage our organisations.

Hélia Gonçalves Pereira is Assistant Professor of the Marketing, Operations and General Management Department at Instituto Universitário de Lisboa – ISCTE-IUL and Director of the MSc in Hospitality and Tourism Management and Tour DC Programme at the same University. Also, she is the responsible for the Post Graduation in Sales Management and Top Management in Hospitality and Tourism at INDEG-ISCTE. Hélia Gonçalves Pereira is also Director of the Marketing FutureCast Lab, an applied research lab in new trends in marketing, created 10 years ago to reinforce the link between academy and companies. In this context, she has coordinated several in-depth studies around more than 200 trends in marketing and management as well tourism. Her background is interdisciplinary, combining a BSc in Economics, a post Degree in European Studies, a MSc in Management and a PhD in Management with specialization in Marketing and several years as senior consultant in Price Waterhouse and Coopers. She has interests in consumer behaviour, internet marketing and social media and, as well, tourism and strategic marketing.
Keynote speaker: Arlindo Oliveira, President of Instituto Superior Técnico
Artificial Intelligence: Fleeting Trend or the Future of Humanity?
Short bio: Arlindo Oliveira was born in Angola and has lived in Mozambique, Portugal, Switzerland and California. He obtained his BSc and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and his PhD degree, also in EECS, from the University of California at Berkeley, where he was a Fulbright scholar. He was a researcher at CERN, the Electronics Research Laboratory of UC Berkeley and the Berkeley Cadence Laboratories. He is a professor at the computer science and engineering department of IST and a researcher at INESC-ID. He authored three books, translated in different languages, and more than 150 articles in international conferences and journals, in the areas of algorithms, machine learning and computer architecture. He has been on the boards of a number of companies and institutions and is a past president of INESC-ID and of the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence. He is a senior member of the IEEE and of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering. He became president of Instituto Superior Técnico in 2012. He received a number of prizes and distinctions, including the Technical University of Lisbon / Santander prize for excellence in research, in 2009.
Keynote speaker: Luís Ferreira da Silva, Director of Cloud and Enterprise at Microsoft Portugal
Short bio: Luís Ferreira da Silva is the director of Cloud and Enterprise at Microsoft and is responsible for the Microsoft Azure business. He obtained his PhD degree in Computer Science by NOVA University of Lisbon and he is also an Assistant Professor at Instituto Universitário de Lisboa – ISCTE-IUL, where he teaches Computational Infrastructure Architectures with focus in Cloud and other emerging technologies. With over 20 years’ of experience he has a deep knowledge and a clear view of the challenges and opportunities faced by organizations of all sizes. He sees Artificial intelligence (AI) as an umbrella that covers several different technologies such as machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and natural language processing that, individually or in combination, add intelligence to applications and he believes in inclusive approaches to AI so that everyone can realize its benefits. Their major areas of interest are Cloud Computing, IT Infrastructures, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, IoT and Design Patterns.
